IT Organization Realizes Their DDoS Mitigation Solution Is Not Working With Large Scale Relentless DDoS Attacks
An innovative IT services partner organization for companies in the finance and insurance sectors in Europe provides cloud services along with application operations, plus also tackles classic data center services. Their solutions allow banks, financial service providers and insurance companies to work more successfully, become more efficient and optimize their IT costs. They work with other providers in the development of tailor-made applications and services for the finance and insurance industry. The result is the provisioning of state-of-the-art technologies that assist their customers with getting aligned with governmental regulatory requirements.
The organization fell victim to a targeted DDoS attack in December, which caused some services they hosted for a major German online bank to crash. The service was not available for almost 2 days and online transactions were not possible. Another follow-on attack was directed against the online presence of the company and a partner company, with this service also not available for a few days.
After their existing Anti-DDoS protection solution repeatedly failed to protect the services from the attack, NETSCOUT® was asked to step in and immediately supported them in the form of expertise and advisory consulting. The mitigation of the attack and the loaner hardware required were executed and provided by a partner. Although the mitigation came through a partner, it ultimately was executed with NETSCOUT Arbor Smart DDoS Protection products. After extensive testing and strong recommendation from the partner, it was decided that the old solution should be replaced by NETSCOUT.
They acquired four Arbor Edge Defense (AED) 2800 appliances along with 3 years of support services.
The increased DDoS management and mitigation capacity provides the organization and their employees confidence that they will be protected from DDoS attacks that can disrupt their business activity and even damage the organization’s reputation due to protected customer services being taken out. The organization was satisfied with the flexibility of the AED license configuration and the ability of NETSCOUT to execute on a global procurement effort quickly and to the organization’s crisis timeline.
