  Course Description

This course introduces students to the administration essentials, capabilities, and reporting functions of nGenius Performance Manager v4.x. Through lecture, interactive demonstrations, and practical exercises students are instructed as to the procedures and processes used to proactively assess and monitor network performance using a variety of data sources including nGenius Probes, switches and routers. Students will also verify system configuration settings and solve network problems using a variety of monitoring tools available within nGenius Performance Manager v4.x.
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to successfully configure and use nGenius Performance Manager to proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and report on network performance. Additional topics for this course may include an overview of nGenius Application Fabric Monitor (AFMon) and nGenius Analytics.

Upon the completion of this course participants, should be able to:

  • Describe the functions of the nGenius Server, nGenius Console and the nGenius NewsStand reporting mechanism.
  • Explain the use of the nGenius Console and the utilities used to troubleshoot and solve problems, generate historical reports, and monitor response time information.
  • Administer nGenius Performance Manager user accounts and roles to restrict access to Server preferences and configuration parameters.
  • Implement device configurations to monitor and collect performance data from probes, switches and routers.
  • Configure the device monitoring settings of NetScout probes for the collection of network and application performance data.
  • Monitor, log and view network protocol and application performance usage data.
  • Build a collection of real-time and historical views and graphs to build a performance profile used to analyze network health and assist with application roll outs or major changes in the network infrastructure.
  • Properly monitor and evaluate performance and response time statistics for network infrastructure, application servers and clients.

  • Create, edit and view nGenius Ad-hoc and NewsPaper-style reports.
  • Analyze nGenius reports based upon network segment details including utilization and volume statistics, network protocol usage, top hosts and conversations and the most active applications.
  • Forecast network utilization on monitored segments through trending and statistical analysis.
  • Analyze VoIP traffic behaviors on shared network facilities to include utilization and volume statistics as well as potential sources of delay related to QoS.
