Through the acquisition of ONPATH Technologies in 2012, NetScout offers the nGenius 3900 series packet flow switch for test automation. This family of highly flexible, scalable and dense physical layer and packet flow switching systems, is designed to accommodate a variety of high-performance connectivity and monitoring applications. NetScout’s patented 3-stage switching technology provides a highly scalable and reliable switching system of up to 576 non-blocking ports. The HorizON management software offers the highest security and integrated diagnostics to simplify connectivity management with point-and-click provisioning and full remote control of the nGenius switches.

Scalable

The nGenius 3900 series packet flow switch is available in 1, 3, and 12 slot chassis and is the highest density connectivity and monitoring solution available offering savings in rack space, power, and cooling. Each NetScout Layer 1 switch blade (S-Blade) supports an industry leading 48 ports of connectivity and/or monitoring per rack unit, while the optical switch blade (O-Blade) supports 96 fully non-blocking ports in 2 rack units. The Layers 2-7 packet switching blade supports up to 48 ports of 1/10Gbps Ethernet and 4 ports of 40Gbps Ethernet for packet switching, filtering, and aggregation. The scalability of the 3900 series stretches from 16 to 576 ports of non-blocking connectivity without wasting ports on inter switch links. This results in a flatter, simpler network. Mesh networking of multiple 3900 series chassis provides scalability of over 100,000 ports.

Flexible

The nGenius 3900 series supports a hybrid electrical and all-optical non-blocking switching fabric and a hybrid Layer 1 and Layers 2-7 packet switching fabric in the same platform. The universal S-Blade provides any-to-any connectivity, while the integrated test access ports and multicast functions allow non-intrusive, low-latency monitoring and one-to-many connectivity. Ports within the same blade can support Ethernet as well as Fibre Channel applications across a wide range of data rates from 1Gbps to 10Gbps. The all-optical O-Blade supports all photonic applications ranging from analog to digital with data rates up to 100Gbps and beyond. The packet switching module provides advanced traffic flow filtering, aggregation, multicast, port level statistics, and threshold alarming, adding intelligence and optimization to your connectivity and monitoring applications. The 3903 and 3912 chassis are designed with a fully redundant architecture, including hot-swappable, field replaceable parts for the industry’s highest availability.

The modular architecture of the nGenius 3900 series enables a “pay as you grow” model for the ultimate in flexibility and scalability. Each of the systems is designed to support the full capacity needed per application or site.
