Network General Delivers 10 Gigabit Ethernet Sniffer InfiniStream Platform

Company Continues to Raise the Bar with the Introduction of New Enhancements to its Network and Application Performance Management Solutions

LAS VEGAS, May 1, 2006, INTEROP 2006 Network General, the global leader in providing dashboard to packet solutions for enterprise application and network performance analysis, today announced several new enhancements to its industry-leading portfolio of network and application management products, including the general availability of Sniffer InfiniStream 3.0.  This new release supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE), the emerging standard for high-bandwidth enterprise networks.

10 GbE network performance issues can ripple and wreak havoc across the enterprise. Isolating, analyzing and troubleshooting these events can be enormously time-consuming. The Sniffer InfiniStream platform captures and records network data to examine network performance, observe traffic trends, isolate anomalies, perform deep packet analysis and generate summary reports.  With the addition of 10GbE, Network General enables retrospective analysis for converged, high-bandwidth voice, video and data networks.

"As businesses continue to implement VoIP, streaming video and on-demand applications, IT managers must ensure that networks are capable of delivering optimal quality of service despite the mounting pressures of network and application convergence," said Ken Boyd, chief information officer and executive vice president of product delivery, Network General. "Year over year, we've seen our customers demand support for higher bandwidth networks.  With Sniffer InfiniStream 3.0, Network General is delivering on its commitment to provide solutions that meet and exceed our customers' requirements."

Sniffer InfiniStream 3.0 provides sustained 10 GbE full duplex capture and analysis for troubleshooting backbones and vital network segments. It is available in a 2 port configuration on the i1620 Sniffer InfiniStream Platform. Both short-range (100m) and long-range (10 km) optics are available. All previous Sniffer InfiniStream features and functions are available with version 3.0 and the 10 GbE option.

Sniffer InfiniStream 3.0 also includes a new Web-based User Interface (UI). This key feature enables real-time reports that are accessible from anywhere, anytime on the network.  The Web-based interface eases and facilitates remote management for Sniffer InfiniStream.

Additional network visibility is enabled in this release via the WAN/ATM SuperTAP, providing passive connection into WAN DS-3 Clear Channel, HSSI, ATM DS-3, and ATM OC-3 connections.  The WAN/ATM SuperTAP enables users to better understand the health and condition of their WAN links, and provides end-to-end coverage of vital network segments.

Network General also announced today enhancements to Sniffer MultiSegment Intelligence 4.1.  In order to optimize accurate analysis and troubleshooting, Sniffer MultiSegment Intelligence now delivers client address filtering over multi-tiered application transactions, and port-mapping of application processes combined with business-relevant application aliasing.  Additional advancements in multi-tiered analysis include a single view for reporting performance metrics, and diagnosing issues within the multiple transactions underpinning application performance.

The Sniffer InfiniStream 3.0 and MultiSegment Intelligence 4.1 releases are now generally available.
