Network General Solutions Enter Evaluation Phase For National Information Assurance Partnership Certification

Company Leads Industry in Meeting Highest Government Security Requirements

SAN JOSE, CALIF., April 4, 2006 Network General, the global leader in enterprise application and network performance analysis, today announced that the current release of its Sniffer InfiniStream Console, Sniffer InfiniStream Capture Engine, Sniffer Enterprise Administrator and Sniffer Enterprise Visualizer have advanced to "In Evaluation" status for Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 3 (EAL3 ) certification.

The Common Criteria EAL3 certification, sanctioned by National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS), assures government agencies that information technologies have undergone the necessary due diligence required to proceed to the final testing and analysis steps to conform to current federal security standards.

"After starting down the EAL2 certification path, many of our Department of Defense customers pointed us to EAL3 as a 'must have' if we were to run on their various classified networks. We then invested the additional resources and monies to advance the process with the NIAP testing lab," said Bob Carter, vice president of Federal Sales, Network General.  "As application, network and security convergence continues, the necessity to go beyond EAL-2 was paramount for us. There are just too many levels of monitoring, measuring and management taking place that the appliance itself cannot be vulnerable to security risks. Also as Network General propels into the SLA side of enterprise reporting along with Service Assurance and Optimization, our products will have more touch points than any other offering in this space. Companies need a vendor they can count on and trust."

"Real world events are forcing agencies to require their software solution providers adhere to strict regulatory standards that guard against threats to their IT systems," said John Trauth, executive vice president of Government Systems, Merlin Technical Solutions. "We respect Network General for its continued focus on IT security, as well as its dedication to ensuring that suppliers support and service its agency counterparts with solid, secure software offerings."

"With increasing levels of monitoring, measuring and management taking place, we cant afford to be vulnerable to security risks," said Angelo Tenaglia, Enterprise Management engineer, NORAD.  "Network General is a vendor we can count on to meet regulatory requirements while supporting the Department of Defense installed base."

The National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) is a U.S. Government initiative that was established to meet the security testing needs of both information technology (IT) consumers and producers. NIAP is a collaboration between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) in fulfilling their respective responsibilities under PL 100-235 (Computer Security Act of 1987). The partnership combines the extensive IT security experience of both agencies to promote the development of technically sound security requirements for IT products and systems and appropriate measures for evaluating those products and systems.
