Sniffer Enterprise Administrator 4.0 Provides Enterprise Wide Control While Reducing Management Overhead

Sniffer Enterprise Platforms are Centrally Configured and Managed, Enforcing Compliance and Security Policies while Lowering TCO

MIAMI, NOVEMBER 7, 2005, SNIFFER USER SUMMIT 2005 Network General, the global leader in enterprise network and application performance analysis, today announced the general availability of Sniffer Enterprise Administrator 4.0.  The new release provides enhanced centralized management, administration, and security of Sniffer resources.  It automates essential processes, delivering important compliance and security benefits, as well as lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO).  Its extended configuration settings allow IT administrators to configure hundreds of options on one Sniffer agent, then clone the configuration across other agents throughout the enterprise to save valuable administration time. This capability, combined with Sniffer Enterprise Administrators ability to automatically download Microsoft operating system and Sniffer software updates, helps ensure the highest levels of software security and enterprise policy compliance.

Sniffer Enterprise Administrator provides a single console view across multiple Administrator appliances, enabling single sign-on and administration of all Sniffer devices from one console. This is an important time-saving benefit for enterprises with more than one Sniffer Distributed appliance. Remote re-imaging and software update capabilities eliminate the need for IT administrators to physically access the Sniffer devices, allowing these IT professionals to focus their efforts on managing applications and networks. As a result, enterprises can optimize their ability to execute large-scale agent changes required to meet enterprise compliance and security policies.

Administrators productivity is further extended by enhanced alarm and automated escalation capabilities, ensuring management time is not wasted on false-positive alarms. In addition, Sniffer Enterprise Visualizer can be added to the agent domains to provide seamless reporting.

The time-saving enhancements weve made to Sniffer Enterprise Administrator 4.0 benefit administrators and IT managers alike, said Aswini Chowdappa, product manager at Network General.  Administrators can work more productively, and the enterprise can operate more securely.  For example, in addition to rapidly replicating changes to enterprise security policy across Sniffer agents, Sniffer Enterprise Administrator can now track and enforce access to sensitive data captured by all Sniffer instrumentation. With enhanced audit log capabilities, IT management can identify who accessed the sensitive data captured and stored within Sniffer devices.

"We started with nPO Manager several years ago and realized that it had tremendous potential, said Joseph Navarrete, Network Specialist at Intel Corp.  We beta tested version 3.1 of that product and worked closely with Network General to identify the required features that have now been implemented in Sniffer Enterprise Administrator 4.0.  The development team took the time to really listen to us, and then took our feedback and implemented our ideas into the new Sniffer Enterprise Administrator product.  The resulting performance and functionality are excellent; we plan to roll out Sniffer Enterprise Administrator across the enterprise in early 2006."
