Frost & Sullivan Names Network General Market Leader For The Fourth Consecutive Year

Emerging technologies including Voice over IP and 10 Gigabit Ethernet cited as technology trends driving growth in the LAN/WAN test equipment market.

SAN JOSE, CALIF., OCTOBER 17, 2005 Frost & Sullivans recent analysis of the LAN/WAN test equipment market named Network General as the market leader for the fourth consecutive year.  Demonstrating market dominance with 33.5 percent of the LAN/WAN installation, maintenance and monitoring (IM&M) market, Network General enables customers to quickly identify, monitor, measure, manage, and resolve network performance problems and bottlenecks before they impact their business. The breadth of Network Generals Sniffer? Enterprise Solution, combined with its 19 years of experience in Network and Application Performance Analysis, enables the company to consistently perform in this market, which is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 6.8 percent, with the market totaling $1.2 billion by 2011.

According to Frost & Sullivans market analysis, Voice over IP (VoIP), Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE), and Virtual Private Network (VPN) are examples of technologies that are seeing widespread adoption and growth, and are expected to have a positive impact on the revenues in the LAN/WAN test equipment market.

The rapid adoption of Sniffer Enterprise Solutions has enabled Network General to continue to lead the IM&M market, said Michael Pope, president of Network General Corporation.  With nearly two decades of experience in managing network and application analysis, we are focused on continued innovation, expanding our global footprint, and operational excellence.  We are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the projected growth in this space and look forward to sharing the details of our next generation solutions at our user conference on November 7-9 at the Fountainebleau Resort in Miami.

The study also noted that Asia Pacific continues to play an important role in the development of the market.  Asia Pacific generates more revenues for the IM&M market segment than any other region in the world, and the region is expected to double in size by 2011, growing to  252.5 million, with a compound annual growth rate of nearly 10 percent.

It is critical that companies keep pace with this rapidly growing industry to ensure their presence in the market going forward, said Sujan Sami, Senior Research Analyst from, Frost & Sullivan. We expect Network General will remain the leader and a tough competitor in the LAN/WAN test equipment industry now and into the future.
