Network General Enhances Network Performance with Consolidation of Sniffer Portable into Three Distinct Solutions
Customer Loyalty Program Established to Enable Customers to Renew Lapsed Support
SAN JOSE, CALIF., October 25, 2004 In order to continue to ensure optimal network performance while meeting changing market conditions, Network General Corporation, the leading developer and provider of award-winning solutions for network and application performance management, today announced the consolidation of its Sniffer Portable family of products into three cost-effective solutions giving customers more functionality and ease-of-use.
"Network General realizes that network managers are searching for more cost-effective products that present greater functionality," said Tom Bienkowski, Sniffer product line manager at Network General. "We listened to our customers' needs and the consolidation of the Sniffer Portable product line into three suites provides the performance that they want, and shows the renewed focus on core competencies that these customers require."

With Sniffer Portable, network and engineering professionals have the ability to quickly identify and resolve network performance issues, such as network slowdowns or outages that can lead to an extensive loss of revenue and network downtime a concern for both enterprises and service providers.

The new Sniffer Portable product line contains three product suites, Sniffer Portable LAN, Sniffer Portable WAN, and Sniffer Portable Field Service Suite. Each of the new Sniffer Portable solutions addresses specific needs for the network manager.
Sniffer Portable LAN enables network managers to troubleshoot any LAN topology including:
- 10/100 Ethernet
- Token Ring
- FDDI
- Wireless
- Gigabit
Sniffer Portable WAN allows network managers to troubleshoot WAN topologies including:
- HSSI, T1/E1, RS/V
- ATM
- Packet over SONET
The Sniffer Portable Field Service Suite enables network managers responsible for both LANs and WANs to use one product to address the troubleshooting needs they have, including the new VoIP networks that are emerging. Sniffer Voice arms the VoIP network manager with the solutions needed to ensure quality of service on their IP telephony networks by detecting, monitoring and managing voice data streams.

The many existing customers of Network General's leading Sniffer Portable products who are under a valid support contract can readily upgrade their current product to the new Sniffer Portable solution sets.
Customer Loyalty Program
In addition, Network General has announced a new Customer Loyalty Program to enable customers who let their support lapse on their Network General products to be licensed again. This limited-time program offers customers who have let their support lapse on any Sniffer product prior to September 1, 2004, to get back that support to ensure continued access to technical support, product updates, bug fixes, security filters, and all of the other valuable benefits of Network General software support.
The Customer Loyalty Program covers software support renewals for all currently supported products, including the just announced Sniffer Portable LAN, WAN and Field Service Suites.
