Network General Corporation Established
San Jose, Calif., July 16, 2004 - Network General Corporation announced today its strategy to deliver world-class network and application management solutions to customers around the globe as a newly established private company.
Network General Corporation was formed from the Sniffer Technologies division at McAfee, Inc. (formerly Network Associates). On April 22, 2004, Silver Lake Partners and Texas Pacific Group agreed to jointly acquire this business unit. The acquisition was completed today.
With approximately 6,000 customers worldwide, Network General is building on an 18-year history of industry-leading, high-quality solutions designed to help network managers keep their networks running continuously and reliably.
"Network managers are faced with a double-edged sword of pressures driving the need for proven network management solutions," said Debra Curtis, research vice president at Gartner. "On the one edge of the sword, they are tasked with keeping up with the ever growing complexity of new and higher speed network technologies. On the other edge of the sword, they are tasked with understanding how business applications utilize the network infrastructure, which must guide their support priorities and investment decisions."
Today Network General is a renewed company focused on customers and growth, said Bruce Fram, CEO of Network General. With customers in over 50 countries, Network General is well-positioned to continue being the gold-standard in network and application performance management. We plan to build on strategic investments designed to significantly grow sales, service, and research and development, resulting in an expanded Network General team of 600 in the near future.
Led by a highly talented team of industry veterans that hold a solid networking and applications pedigree, Network Generals strategic initiatives include the following:
- Investing in Customer-Centric Programs. With solid customer focus and a proven Network General team of employees, the company is committed to working in tandem with customers to create and deliver solutions that address the needs of network managers today and tomorrow. This means that customers around the globe will experience a renewed focus from Network Generals consulting and education services, and worldwide sales and support services.
- Investing in Innovation. Investments in innovation are geared to strengthen Network Generals award-winning product portfolio. The goal is to continue the creation of cutting-edge technologies built around the needs of network managers. A key proof point to this will be further developments in our application performance management product line Appera, and the Infinistream network management product line. Network General will also be moving forward in revitalizing its core products, including the Sniffer Portable and Sniffer Distributed families, to address the evolving network performance challenges associated with next generation networks, as well as traditional networks.
- Investing in Global Presence. Leveraging its direct and value-added reseller sales model, Network General is focused on building existing and new relationships with customers worldwide. Network General currently has employees in 23 countries around the world and offers solutions to customers in more than 50 countries.
