NetScout to Present on Best Practices in Managing and Controlling Network and Application Performance at Interop NY
WESTFORD, Mass. – October 15, 2007—NetScout Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), the industry pace-setter for advanced network and service assurance solutions, today announced that the company will present at next week’s Interop New York 2007 conference, which will be held at the Javits Center October 22-26.
NetScout will participate on a panel that will explore some of the key techniques that IT organizations can use to better manage and control application performance. In the vast majority of situations, the end user notices poor application performance before the IT organization does, and this damages the credibility of IT. Additionally, the amount of bandwidth-intensive recreational traffic such as Internet Radio or online poker traversing the corporate WAN continues to climb. This panel discussion, moderated by industry luminary Jim Metzler, will cover the ways in which enterprises can optimize their visibility into network traffic and assure performance.
Caching, compression, acceleration, and optimization have all been offered up through the years as the panacea for poor application performance. However, a recent survey of NetScout’s customer base showed that in the majority of cases, these techniques would prove ineffective; users reported that application and server issues were the source of performance issues more than 50 percent of the time. “It is human to look for a quick-fix, but clearly, successful application delivery is a multi-step process,” said NetScout vice president of marketing Jim Frey, who will speak on NetScout’s behalf at Interop NY. “First, IT organizations must have full visibility so they can identify all applications that are running on the network. Second, the IT team must be able to ensure the acceptable performance of the applications that are relevant to the business, while controlling or eliminating applications that are not relevant to business. WAN optimization alone cannot solve such performance issues. According to our user survey, 21percent of the performance issues reported are caused by a poorly performing server and another 20 percent of the time it’s as simple as user error.”
The session will take place on Thursday October 25th from 10:45 a.m. to noon.
Those who are not attending Interop NY but would like to learn more about NetScout’s views on this topic can listen to a Webinar titled, “Automated Analytics: Streamlining Identification and Diagnosis of Network and Application Performance Problems Before They Affect Service”.
