Wuhan University of Technology Manages Network Performance and Service Delivery With NetScout’s nGenius Solution

The nGenius Application & Network Performance Management System Gives University Comprehensive Visibility into Application Flows and Enhances Troubleshooting Capability

WESTFORD, Mass., April 3, 2006 – NetScout Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), a leading provider of application and network performance management solutions, today announced that Wuhan University of Technology in China has deployed the nGenius® Solution to manage the performance of their network services.

Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) is one of the key universities under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. More than 42,000 student and faculty users depend on its complex network and application infrastructure for teaching and office services, remote learning, video broadcasting, data storage and Internet access.

After reviewing multiple vendors’ offerings, WUT selected the nGenius® Solution for its superior collection and analysis of key performance data, including NetFlow, MIB II, and NetScout’s own nGenius Probe data. Another factor in the university’s decision was the nGenius Solution’s rich, informative reports on network utilization, traffic patterns, and the overall state of their application services.

The university’s network managers use the nGenius Solution to gain visibility into the application flows running across its network, optimize network bandwidth resources and perform rapid network troubleshooting to assure the delivery of its mission-critical services.

“Our mission is to deliver the network performance and reliability that our users demand. NetScout’s monitoring solution provides us unmatched, valuable performance information and analysis to help us accomplish our mission on a daily basis,” said the director of the Network Management Information Center at WUT. “Now, we have real-time visibility into how faculty and students use bandwidth, can rapidly detect abnormal traffic, and are able to troubleshoot problems in a timely fashion to guarantee service levels. The nGenius Solution’s flexible reporting and deep application visibility make it superior to other products.”

In the first phase of the deployment, the university is collecting performance data from the core routers at its data center and other key access points to analyze application flows. Because network managers get detailed information such as “Top Hosts” and “Top Conversations” any time and anywhere over the Web, they can more rapidly identify and resolve performance issues. They can also analyze user behavior models to more efficiently allocate network resources.

“We are very impressed with how NetScout’s products have helped our customers optimize their network services in a large university environment,” said Wu Banjian, president of Netsky Co. Ltd., NetScout’s partner in implementing the solution at WUT. “The nGenius Solution has become an integral part of our network management offerings to our customers in educational institutions, government agencies and enterprises.”

“The success of the WUT Network Management Information Center in improving network services to its faculty and students for research and teaching activities demonstrates the nGenius Solution’s capabilities and flexibility for managing performance in large networks,” said Jim Frey, vice president of marketing at NetScout Systems. “Wuhan University of Technology is one of many world-class research institutions that leverage NetScout’s High Definition Performance Management solutions to enhance educational and communication services such as remote learning, Voice over IP and broadcast video.”
