NetScout Increases Focus on Citrix Applications
NetScout Now a Premier Citrix Alliance Partner and Sponsor of Citrix iForum 2004

WESTFORD, Mass.—September 30, 2004—NetScout Systems (NASDAQ: NTCT), a leading provider of enterprise-wide network and application performance management products and solutions, today announced expanded efforts that demonstrate the company’s commitment to enabling key technologies used by enterprises for application access and delivery. NetScout is now a Citrix® Alliance Partner at the Premier level, and is a sponsor of Citrix iForum™ 2004 to be held next week, October 4-7 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Florida.

NetScout’s nGenius® Performance Management Solution has a wide range of capabilities that allow the proactive management of applications being delivered using key access technologies, such as Citrix access infrastructure. However stable, Citrix-served applications can be subject to network performance anomalies such as application bandwidth contention or router misconfiguration. Since core business applications such as Microsoft® Office are often chosen for Citrix hosting, interference with this traffic can impact critical business functions.

“NetScout’s nGenius® Solution provides granular details on application usage and resource requirements that can help enterprises plan their Citrix deployments to a finer degree of accuracy,” said Dennis Drogseth, vice president for Enterprise Management Associates. “In addition, its ability to analyze and pinpoint responsiveness issues to a particular application, server or area in the network can enable more effective operational processes.”

“There is a growing requirement among enterprises to manage information access according to business requirements,” said Barry Davis, vice president, Corporate Development for Citrix. “The nGenius Solution allows Citrix enterprise customers to meet this need with better insight into application usage and the underlying causes of performance issues across the network. With this information, IT managers can direct resources toward key requirements and help ensure optimal access.”

Using the nGenius Solution, IT managers can holistically identify, track and manage the performance of their Citrix-hosted applications in conjunction with other traffic in the network using a single solution. Benefits include:

  • Monitoring Citrix traffic flows in a converged context, with all other applications active network-wide, to see how performance is impacted by network changes and load variations.
  • Monitoring and reporting utilization and responsiveness of Citrix applications by individual users or groups of users, for insight into the business impact of performance issues.
  • Analyzing and pinpointing application slowdowns to the network or application server to resolve response time problems in minutes, instead of hours.
  • Performing in-depth analysis of Citrix traffic anywhere in the network with Web-based packet analysis.
  • Proactively alarming on Citrix response time and utilization levels to mitigate performance faults before they impact end users.

“This new alliance demonstrates NetScout’s commitment to help enterprises embrace multiple key technologies as part of their application delivery strategies,” said Bruce Sweet, vice president of business development for NetScout Systems. “When implemented along with Citrix MetaFrame® Presentation Server, the nGenius Solution is able to identify and monitor Citrix traffic flows and map them to real-time and historical reports for detailed analysis.”
