White Paper Abstract: Monitoring Mission Critical Encrypted Networks with the nGenius® Solution
Encrypted networks provide the necessary protection in most United States Government Agencies as they reduce the time and expense associated with connecting offices, bases, and field locations worldwide. An encrypted network enables an IRS agent in Boise, Idaho or a National Guardsman in the Middle-East to traverse non-secure, shared networks to access sensitive or top-secret information in centralized locations. Today's highly volatile military and civilian government initiatives makes it imperative that all members of the agencies and branch services securely exchange top-secret information via commercial IP-based, wide-area networks in a timely fashion.
Where the technology that helps secure network traffic and packets also obscures the detailed data most network professionals require for troubleshooting and traffic engineering, visibility into encrypted networks is a major challenge for government IT organizations. This paper outlines a scalable approach for collecting network and application performance information over encrypted networks by employing the nGenius® Solution's Site Monitoring feature to monitor flows destined for remote sites. Site Monitoring overcomes the complexity involved in encryption by using nGenius Probes on the LAN side of the network while still monitoring traffic from the remote-site WAN perspective.
